How to Measure Your Ring Size at Home

A DIY LIFE-HACK for every Passion Pilgrim

So you’re online shopping for rings and you’re drooling over a shiny piece of digit decor. But just as you press the Add to Cart button, you realize that you have no idea what size to order. You just spent all that time weighing out pros + cons and finally selected the perfect (and I mean PERFECT) ring, but those precious minutes of indecision turned into hours and now it’s late and driving to the nearest jeweler sounds like way (WAY) too much effort and they’re probably closed anyway... Sound familiar?

I’ve totally been there. Lucky for you, there are a couple of easy hacks I’ve picked up to quickly measure your ring size at home without needing to leave your sacred space or order a one-time-use tool to get the job done.

First, Try this…

Grab some twine or lightweight string/yarn from your crafting box (yes, I know you have one) along with a ruler or measuring tape. A ruler is preferred. Make sure the string you use doesn’t have too much stretch to it or isn’t too thick as this will affect your measurement.

  1. Wrap your string around the finger that you plan to wear the ring on. Pinch or mark the point where the string finishes wrapping around your finger. You might need someone to lend a hand with this step for accuracy, or if it’s just a scrap of string you can cut it for precision.

  2. Once you have clearly marked where the string finishes wrapping around your finger, take that piece and lay it beside a ruler.

  3. Now, measure in millimetres how long the string is and use the chart below to choose the proper ring size for you! (HINT: If you’re in between sizes, round up or else the ring will be too tight which is a tragedy I want you to avoid.)

Another option

Something else you can do to properly size your ring is to simply measure a ring that you already own and wear, again, in millimetres.

All you need to do is measure the inside diameter of the ring by using a flat ruler and use the chart below to find out its size.

Lastly, If you plan on bling-ing up ALL of your fingers, then investing in a ring sizer may actually be the go for you. You may have to wait a few days to get your hands on one of these tools but it sounds like the hunt could be worth it since it’ll get more action than the average avocado slicer!

You can pick these devices up pretty cheap from somewhere like Amazon, eBay or check the online Marketplace if a nearby jewelry shop doesn’t stock one. That way you can measure all your fingers, and help your friends do the same.

stay shiny,
